Education Activities and Excursions

2008

At Bunbury Dolphin Discovery (BDD) we provide curriculum-focused educational activities and field based learning in marine and environmental studies.

Located 2½ hours south of Perth on the foreshore of Koombana Bay in Bunbury, BDD is surrounded by a diverse range of marine and coastal habitats including the Indian Ocean, Koombana Bay, the Leschenault Estuary, the Leschenault Inlet and the mangroves. Each habitat represents a unique natural resource and offers an ideal opportunity for learning. In consultation with the WA Department of Education and Training, BDD has created an educational science-based program for 2007/2008. The program activities include:

  1. Dolphins and their Environment (BDD, Theatre and Beach)
    1. Key Learning Area: Science, Society and Environment
    2. Other Learning Areas: Mathematics, The Arts.
    3. Duration: 60 - 90 minutes
  2. What’s in the Mud (Mangrove Forest Excursion)
    1. Key Learning Area:  Science, Society and Environment
    2. Other Learning Areas: Mathematics, The Arts.
    3. Duration: 90 minutes
  3. Everything Marine (BDD and the Mangrove Forest Combined)
    1. Duration: 120 minutes
  4. Boats, Biology and the Bay (Naturaliste Charters Boat Cruise)
    1. Key Learning Area:  Environmental Science Mathematics
    2. Duration: 60 - 90 minutes (weather dependant)
